White Horse Housing Association Ltd are a specialist rural housing association that has successfully built, managed and improved affordable homes in rural areas since 1984.
The organisation were keen to indentify possible improvements to their housing stock in Kilmersdon - both to reduce their carbon footprint and to enable energy bill savings for their residents. They had already had structural surveys of the properties carried out, but these did not specifically focus on energy efficiency improvements. The dwellings are in a conservation areas, so an additional potential challenge was getting permission to fit solar PV to the properties.
ASPECT were appointed to carry out energy efficiency audits on a selection of properties, to understand what energy reduction tenologies might be appropriate to reduce energy use.
Our team visited the village and discussed the buildings in scope with the facilities management team. External reviews of all the properties were carried out, along with internal reviews of 2 representative dwellings. The assessment focussed on lighting, building fabric, heating and the possibilty for fitting renewable energy systems
A detailed report was generated and sent to the team, which highlighted possible carbon and cost savings, along with guidance on general energy saving tips and ideas around planning consent for solar PV systems
Total cost savings of around £13,500 and CO2e savings of over 12t have been predicted
